This article gives me another aspect of the pay gap between men and women in the work force. It gave me the in sight on how the gap is somewhat closing but at a very slow rate. This lady mentions how she was working at a job in which females made up the majority of the population of the workforce and she was being under paid. She metions how she just wasn’t making enough money, and had to get a job that payed more money. She moved to a job in which the ratio of men to women was higher. This gave her the opportunity to rise in position and get to a sergeant in the police force. I recieved this information from pittsburghlive.com

The gender gap between male and female earnings is narrower than ever, according to the Office for National Statistics.
The ONS’s latest survey reveals that men earn on average 17.2 per cent more than women – down from 17.5 per cent a year ago. That figure includes a significant number of very high male earners. Stripping out the extremes at either end of the labour market reduces the gap somewhat – to 12.6 per cent, again a little lower than in 2006 (12.8 per cent).
For part-time workers, the gap is 35.6 per cent. The preponderance of women in traditionally badly rewarded occupations and in part-time work are major factors in the gender gap.
The TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: “Progress on closing the gender pay gap has slowed to a snail’s pace. Greater transparency and fairness in pay systems will help employers to eliminate pay discrimination, but the voluntary approach has failed, so mandatory pay audits are needed.”

It doesn’t take long for male bachelor’s-degree graduates to financially outpace their female counterparts upon entering the work force, a new study shows. After one year of full-time employment, women earn 20% less than their male colleagues, according to a study conducted by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) a Washington-based nonprofit. The group compared the salaries of two populations of working professionals by analyzing data from the U.S. Department of Education. Despite a 10-year spread in the survey samples, the results showed about the same gap in pay among men and women after their first year on the job.
The study sample included 9,000 bachelor’s-degree recipients from the 1992-1993 school year and more than 10,000 who graduated during the 1999-2000 school year. For the first group, the study also compared the wages of men and women after 10 years and found that the gap widened, with women by then earning 31% less than men.

November 14, 2007 by 2121asapThis article from theage.com, I think that it was written mainly to inform those who think that the pay gap between men and women was something of the past. This articles along with many others that I have blogged about have mention the fact that the gender gap is still alive and in some fields still increasing. This articles also mention the number one cause of the gap between the gender, which is considerably the fact that women leave the workforce do to the fact that they have to leave in responsibility of parenthood. The majority of women are paid less because companies know that it is an high probability that they will have to take leave for parenthood. This is the leading factor for women not being paid, or compensated equally to men.

November 14, 2007 by 2121asapI have just read this article that was very vital to help me analyze the different perspectives of the pay gap between men and women. From this blog site that I was on iht .com they provided me with the facts that say that out of college women begin only a mere eighty percent of what their male peers make coming out of there first year of college. It also informed me that this gap steadily increases as time goes on throughout their years in the work force. Statistics show that as women in their particular field, at about ten years they only make about sixty nine percent of their male counter parts. Despite the factors that many view as the reasons for this gap which include, certain occupations, and parenthood, women many loss out on a quarter of their money, this articles says do to sexual discrimination.

November 9, 2007 by 2121asapI read a article on thirdage. com which revealed many interesting facts to me about the salary difference between men and women. This economic problem has been around for a while. It used to be normal for men to make more than women because the role of the woman was at home. For the women who did work away from the home the usually worked part-time and would earn less then men would. Another reason is because at this time women weren’t in high profile jobs such as medicine and accounting. It has been almost 30 years later and there still is a gap between the earnings of men and women in the workforce.Statistics show that women who work full time year round only make about seventy- six percent of what a man would in that same position. It will be a while before the gap begins to close. Latest data says that between the years of 1991 and 2001 the gap narrowed a stunning two percent.

November 1, 2007 by 2121asapI agree with with this student. I would prefer to have nice and healthy crop rather than old rotten crops. Yes I know at there illegal immigrates but, someone has to harvest crops and do farm work. Many today would consider entering the field of farming and agricultural but, it still has to done if Americans want to eat. Is is an important issue and a very good topic to raise debate, and argue about.

November 1, 2007 by 2121asapInformation from thinkgirl.net lets us, public America know that the pay gap between men and women is increasing. This is shocking says Jenny Watson, due to the fact that it is forty years after the Equal Pay Act was enforced. To me this is shocking as well. This gap in pay is especially visible between men and women in management positions. Stats say that men make little more than six thousand dollars annually than women in the same position or field. This shows that my topic is a serious issue still today in not just in America but all around the world women face theses pay problems.
